Coal India Limited (CIL) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) to jointly develop a coal-fired 2×800 MW ultra supercritical power plant in Jharkhand.
This brownfield project will be an expansion of the existing Chandrapura thermal power station which currently has a capacity of 2×250 MW. The proposed project involves a total investment of Rs. 165 billion. The joint venture company will be based on a 50:50 equity sharing model. Coal for the power plants will be sourced from nearby coalfields operated by CIL’s subsidiaries, Bharat Coking Coal Limited and Central Coalfields Limited.
