Lhyfe has secured a €149 million grant from the French government for the Green Horizon project situated near the Grand Canal of Le Havre. Lhyfe intends to produce up to 34 tonnes of green hydrogen per day using the project. The production site is expected to be completed by 2029.
The contract with Bpifrance outlines the terms of implementation for the public funding. Lhyfe will secure an initial advance of €18 million by June 2025, which will enable it to cover investments already made since 2022 and to launch the next stages. The second tranche will be released in the following months on the basis of milestones outlined in the contract. The subsequent payments will be in the form of reimbursements for eligible and well justified expenses. These are conditional upon the successful completion of predefined annual milestones over a four-year period, up to a maximum total amount of €149 million.
The Green Horizon project was selected by the French government as part of the call for expressions of interest on hydrogen carried out in France in 2021. It was integrated into the third wave of Important Projects of Common European Interest on hydrogen in 2022 and validated by the European Commission in February 2024. The building permit and the environmental authorisation request for the project have already been submitted by Lhyfe.
