The European Commission has approved a €780 million state aid scheme to support up to 400 MW of green hydrogen production capacity in the Netherlands. The funding will be awarded through a competitive bidding process by early 2027, with selected projects receiving 10-year variable per-kilogramme subsidies. The scheme will also provide direct grants covering up to 80 percent of eligible investment costs for selected green hydrogen projects.
Furthermore, hydrogen produced under the scheme must comply with the EU’s renewable fuels of non-biological origin (RFNBO) sustainability criteria. The scheme is expected to support production of up to 40,000 tonnes of renewable hydrogen annually, avoiding approximately 324,000 tonnes of carbon emissions annually. This follows two earlier hydrogen support programmes approved in July 2023 and July 2024.
In August 2026, the European Commission approved a €59 million state aid scheme in Slovenia. The funding aims to support the installation of at least 370 MWh of new stand-alone battery energy storage capacity across. The scheme was approved under the Clean Industrial Deal State Aid Framework which was adopted by the European Commission on 25 June 2025.
