Citicore Renewable Energy Corporation and Pampanga I Electric Cooperative have broken ground on an integrated solar photovoltaic (PV) and battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Magalang, Pampanga, Philippines. The facility will combine 41 MWp of solar generation capacity with 53 MWh of battery storage. No project cost or procurement value has been disclosed.

The project will be embedded within the local distribution network operated by Pampanga I Electric Cooperative, allowing electricity generated by the solar plant to be supplied directly to local consumers rather than transmitted through the national high-voltage grid. The battery storage system will store renewable electricity for subsequent use, while the localised generation model is intended to reduce transmission-related losses and support local grid requirements. The project is also expected to help the electric cooperative meet the Philippines’ Renewable Portfolio Standards.
