NLC India Limited (NLCIL) has signed memoranda of understanding with the Industrial Promotion and Investment Corporation of Odisha Limited (IPICOL) to explore coal gasification, thermal power generation and mineral processing projects in Odisha.

The proposed thermal power project involves a 3,200 MW ultra-supercritical coal-based plant, comprising four 800 MW units, with a potential investment of Rs 350 billion. Separately, the two entities will examine the feasibility of coal gasification and the production of synthesis gas for use in the fertiliser sector. The MoUs also cover a beach sand mineral processing facility, involving a tentative investment of Rs 20 billion.
