Matar, Vadodara, India : KP Group has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of the Republic of Botswana to collaborate on the development of large-scale renewable energy generation, energy storage and transmission infrastructure. The agreement marks a key milestone in Botswana’s ambition to achieve net-zero emissions by 2030 and supports KP Group’s international expansion.

The MoU was signed between Botswana’s Ministry of Minerals and Energy and KP Group, which comprises KPI Green Energy Limited, KP Energy Limited and KP Green Engineering Limited. It establishes a framework for planning, development and implementation of renewable energy and associated transmission projects, aimed at strengthening Botswana’s energy security and positioning it as a clean power exporter.

Under the agreement, KP Group and the Botswana government will jointly develop renewable energy and infrastructure projects with an estimated capital investment of around $4 billion (Rs. 36,000 crore), expected to increase the country’s renewable energy capacity to nearly 5 GW. The collaboration also includes the upgrading and construction of high-voltage transmission lines within Botswana and enhanced interconnections with neighboring countries to enable regional power transmission.

As part of the initiative, KP Group will provide 30 scholarships annually to Botswana citizens for education and skill development in renewable energy, engineering, sustainability and related fields, fostering local capacity building and knowledge transfer to support the country’s clean energy transition.

Hon. Bogolo Joy Kenewendo, Minister of Minerals and Energy, said: “This MoU marks an important step in Botswana’s transition towards a sustainable and secure energy future. Through this partnership with KP Group, we aim to accelerate clean energy deployment, strengthen regional power connectivity, deliver long-term economic and environmental benefits and empower our youth through skills development.

Commenting on the MoU, Dr. Faruk G. Patel, Founding Promoter of KP Group, added, “This MoU reflects a shared vision to accelerate the energy transition through scalable and sustainable renewable solutions. Botswana has immense solar and wind potential, and we are honored to partner with the Government to unlock this opportunity. Together, we aim to support Botswana’s net-zero journey while creating long-term economic value and enabling regional clean energy exports.

KP Group will lead technical and commercial development activities, including feasibility studies, project design, financing, construction, commissioning and long-term operation and maintenance of the renewable energy and storage assets.

The MoU highlights Botswana’s commitment to diversifying its energy mix and reducing fossil fuel reliance while leveraging international expertise and investment. For KP Group, the partnership represents a strategic expansion beyond India, complementing its existing 6 GW renewable energy portfolio and its goal of achieving 10 GW by 2030. The Group is also advancing in green hydrogen and ammonia, battery energy storage systems and offshore and floating solar solutions, supported by its state-of-the-art fabrication and galvanizing facility in Matar, which houses Asia’s largest galvanizing kettle.
