Results for Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited’s (MSEDCL) auction to develop 500 MW of grid-connected intra-state wind-solar hybrid power projects on a long-term basis have been announced. The tender also includes additional greenshoe option of up to 500 MW. The tender was issued in March 2024. JSW Energy and Juniper Green Energy have won 200 MW and 75 MW, respectively, by quoting Rs 3.6 per kWh. While, BN Peak Power (BrightNight) has won 76 MW by quoting Rs 3.62 per kWh and Avaada Energy has won 75 MW, by quoting Rs 3.69 per kWh.

According to the tender requirements, hybrid power projects must include both solar and wind components. Each component must have a rated installed capacity of at least 33 per cent of the total contracted capacity. For inter-state hybrid power projects, the minimum project size should be 50 MW or more at a single site, while for intra-state projects, it should be 10 MW or more at a single site. Projects that are either completed or in the process of being completed, without a long-term power purchase agreement with any agency, and those that sell hybrid power on a merchant or short-term basis will also be given consideration for the tender. Furthermore, MSEDCL has mandated the use of indigenously manufactured solar modules listed in list-I of the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers. Additionally, under the tender, only type-certified wind-turbine models issued by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, listed in Revised list of Models and Manufacturers will be allowed.
