The Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) has petitioned to procure 2,000 MW from solar energy. This petition has just been approved by the Uttar Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (UPERC). UPPCL floated tenders for setting up grid-connected 2,000 MW solar photovoltaic power projects on a build, own, operate, and maintain (BOOM) basis. The UPPCL and the winning bidder will enter into a power purchase agreement for a 25-year duration. The incentives and guidelines under the Uttar Pradesh Solar Policy 2022 will apply to these projects. UPPCL have also floated this tender to meet the Renewable Purchase Obligation for 2024-25 and to avoid penalties.

Certain deviations and modifications have been approved. These are done to give preference to projects that will help in improving the local state infrastructure. The commission has specified that in case of a tie between two bidders, the individual who had submitted their bid earlier, will be allotted the project. However, if the tie still persists, preference will be given to bidder planning to establish the project in Uttar Pradesh. Transparency and compliance with the RPO obligations are a necessary part of the process. The Commission has stated that there will be penalties in cases of non-compliance.
