Ocean Winds, a 50-50 joint venture by EDP Renewables and ENGIE, has announced a strategic partnership with Martifer Renewables & Energy for the first offshore wind farm tender in Portugal which is scheduled for this year. This partnership will use Ocean Winds’ international experience in developing and operating offshore wind farms, including the WindFloat Atlantic floating offshore wind farm in Portugal.
Moreover, the partnership aims to deliver sustainable and clean energy solutions in Portugal by contributing to Portugal’s renewable energy target of 2 GW by 2030, aligning with the European Union’s National Energy and Climate Plans. Ocean Winds and Martifer are working on proposals with local suppliers and infrastructure, as the industry waits for the final tender criteria,
In March 2024, Ocean Winds North America LLC acquired Shell New Energies US LLC’s 50 per cent stake in the SouthCoast Wind Energy LLC offshore wind joint venture, giving Ocean Winds full ownership. SouthCoast Wind is a 50-50 joint venture originally formed between Shell and Ocean Winds in 2018 to develop offshore wind projects off the coast of Massachusetts. `
