NHPC Set to Operationalise Fourth Unit of Subansiri Hydro Project

NHPC Limited has declared the commercial operation date (CoD) of the fourth 250 MW unit of the Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project, effective May 8, 2026. The project comprises eight units, each with a capacity of 250 MW, thereby taking the project’s total planned capacity to 2,000 MW. 

With this addition, four units of 250 MW each of the Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project located across Assam and Arunachal Pradesh will be now under commercial operation. Furthermore, the commissioning of the remaining units will be communicated in due course.

In February 2026, NHPC commenced commercial operation of the third unit of the Subansiri lower hydroelectric project. The project is located near North Lakhimpur, on the border of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam. The project’s total construction cost is around Rs 270 billion. Furthermore, the project is a run-of-river scheme with water storage on the Subansiri River.
