Cubico Sustainable Investment have formed a joint venture (JV) to construct more than 1 GW of battery energy storage system (BESS) projects in Italy. According to the statement, the partners will place their wagers on Storaltil’s technical experience in the energy storage segment and Cubico’s proficiency in initiating and expanding projects in Italy. Their alliance will focus on projects that are primarily situated in locations where grid congestion is a problem.

Reportedly, in its initial phase, the JV will include four projects and will incorporate two schemes from Cubico with a combined capacity of 150 MW. Specific details about the schemes were not available. The alliance aims to address Italy’s growing need for new utility-scale electricity storage capacity and help the country tackle critical grid challenges. For Cubico, it will be the first endeavour in the local BESS market.

In July 2021, Cubico Sustainable Investments and GLIL Infrastructure awarded Anesco 12 contracts to offer operations and maintenance services for their 148 MW UK-wide solar farm portfolio. The agreement is Anesco’s single largest O&M portfolio to date, and it has increased its maintenance order book by nearly 14 percent.
