Avangrid, Inc. has commenced commercial operation of two solar projects in Wasco County, Oregon, namely Daybreak Solar and Bakeoven Solar. The two plants together provide a combined installed capacity of 269 MWdc, equivalent to 200 MWac. Daybreak Solar accounts for 189 MWdc, or 140 MWac; while Bakeoven Solar contributes 80 MWdc, or 60 MWac.
The two projects are located next to each other and together comprise around 650,000 installed solar panels. The projects are expected to generate hundreds of GWh of electricity annually. Electricity from Daybreak Solar and Bakeoven Solar is being supplied to the Portland General Electric power grid under the utility’s Green Future Impact programme. This programme allows large municipal, commercial, and industrial customers, including Intel, to procure non-emitting electricity from newly developed clean energy facilities without shifting additional costs to other consumers.
In September 2025, Avangrid signed a power purchase agreement with Amazon for power from the Oregon Trail solar project in Gilliam county, Oregon, to supply renewable electricity to data centres in the region. The 57 MWdc, or 41 MWac, project uses over 100,000 solar panels and is scheduled to become operational in 2027.
