South Korea’s Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment has announced an auction for approximately 2.2 GW of offshore wind capacity in the second half of 2026. The auction will offer fixed-price contracts for 1,700 MW of fixed-bottom offshore wind capacity, comprising 1,400 MW under the general bidding category and 300 MW under the public-led category, in which public institutions are required to hold an equity stake. A separate allocation of approximately 500 MW has been earmarked for floating offshore wind projects.
Furthermore, the price ceilings for the latest auction have been reduced compared to the first half of 2026. The ceiling for fixed-bottom offshore wind has been set at KRW 168,937 per MWh while the ceiling for floating offshore wind stands at KRW 174,003 per MWh. The bidding window is open from October 30 to December 10, 2026, with project awards expected to be announced from December onwards.
