Ahmedabad : As India undertakes one of the world’s largest power infrastructure expansions to meet rising electricity demand, renewable energy integration and transmission network modernisation, Transformers and Rectifiers (India) Limited (TARIL) today announced an investment of Rs.1,250 crore to establish three greenfield manufacturing plants at its Chiyada manufacturing complex in Gujarat. The new facilities will manufacture Bushings (OIP, RIP & RIF up to 800 kV), Pressboard & Insulation Materials and Continuously Transposed Conductors (CTC), critical components that form the backbone of high-voltage transformer manufacturing and are essential for strengthening India’s power transmission infrastructure.
As India expands its transmission network to integrate renewable energy, strengthen interstate power connectivity and meet growing electricity demand, the availability of critical transformer components has become increasingly important for ensuring reliable and timely project execution.
The investment represents a significant step towards building a more resilient and self-reliant domestic power equipment ecosystem. By localising the manufacturing of these critical components, TARIL aims to reduce import dependence, strengthen supply chain resilience and improve the availability of critical equipment required for India’s rapidly expanding transmission and distribution network.
The three plants will be housed under a wholly owned consolidated ancillary subsidiary of TARIL, providing complete control over manufacturing quality, technology, procurement and long-term strategic direction. Construction of these facilities commenced in December 2025, with commercial operations expected to begin in Q1 FY2027-28. Once fully operational, the facilities are expected to generate an annual revenue potential of approximately Rs.2, 000 crore while creating more than 1,000 direct employment opportunities across engineering, manufacturing, operations, quality assurance and research & development.
The Bushing manufacturing facility will produce Oil Impregnated Paper (OIP), Resin Impregnated Paper (RIP) and Resin Impregnated Fibre (RIF) bushings up to 800 kV, among the most technologically advanced components used in extra-high-voltage transformers. Together with the Pressboard & Insulation and CTC facilities, the plants will significantly strengthen TARIL’s vertically integrated manufacturing ecosystem and reinforce India’s capability to manufacture critical power equipment components domestically.
Speaking on the announcement, Mr. Jitendra Mamtora, Chairman, Transformers and Rectifiers (India) Limited (TARIL), said: “India’s aspiration to become a developed nation by 2047 will require one of the world’s most robust and future-ready power infrastructure ecosystems. Every new transmission corridor, renewable energy project and industrial corridor depends on reliable power equipment. Our investment is aligned with this national vision by strengthening domestic manufacturing capabilities for critical transformer components, reducing import dependence and contributing to a resilient power infrastructure ecosystem built in India, for India and the world.”
Commenting on the strategic investment, Mr. Satyen Mamtora, Managing Director & CEO, Transformers and Rectifiers (India) Limited (TARIL),said: “This investment represents far more than a capacity expansion, it is a strategic move towards deep vertical integration. Manufacturing Bushings, Pressboard & Insulation materials and CTC in-house will provide greater control over quality, lead times and operational efficiency while improving supply chain resilience. As India’s demand for transformers continues to grow, we are building an integrated manufacturing platform capable of supporting the country’s evolving power infrastructure requirements while creating sustainable long-term value for customers, shareholders and the nation.”
With this investment, TARIL continues to strengthen its position as one of India’s leading transformer manufacturers while contributing to the creation of a resilient, self-reliant and globally competitive power infrastructure ecosystem that will support India’s support India’s expanding transmission network, renewable energy ambitions and long-term energy security. The project also reinforces the Government of India’s Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives by strengthening indigenous manufacturing capabilities in the power equipment sector.
