BW ESS has acquired the Yanco battery energy storage system (BESS) project in New South Wales, Australia. The project has been acquired from ACEnergy. The project has an installed capacity of 250 MW/1,200 MWh and will connect to the Yanco 132 kV substation. Project construction is expected to commence later in 2026, with commercial operations targeted for 2028. Once operational, the project would supply electricity to around 430,000 homes for a duration of four hours.

Furthermore, ACEnergy developed the project to ready-to-build status, securing land, approvals, grid connection and key contracts. CATL has been appointed system integrator, while ACLE Services will serve as the balance-of-plant contractor. The acquisition further expands BW ESS’s Australian portfolio, which includes 1.3 GWh under commissioning, 1 GWh entering construction and a 2 GW pipeline.
