NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Limited (NVVN) has announced the auction results for its 250 MW/1,000 MWh standalone battery energy storage systems (BESS) tender. Sunsure Energy has been awarded 125 MW/500 MWh at a tariff of Rs 6.64 per kWh, while EnerGrid secured the remaining 125 MW/500 MWh at Rs 6.65 per kWh. The tender was floated in February 2025. It is reportedly one of the first tenders in India with charging power under the bidder’s scope
A viability gap funding support of up to Rs 2.7 million per MWh or 30 per cent of the capital cost, whichever is lower, will be provided to the developers. The developers may also be eligible for an additional capacity of up to 250 MW/1,000 MWh under a greenshoe option.
The selected BESS developers must install, operate, and maintain the systems under a build-own-operate model. The storage systems must be made available to NVVN for charging and discharging on an on-demand basis, with a minimum availability of 95 per cent each month. NVVN had earlier set a ceiling tariff of Rs 7.8 per kWh, and the awarded tariffs fall within this limit.
