The Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources of Turkey has awarded 800 MW of solar energy capacity in the latest round of the YEKA program (Yenilenebilir Enerji Kaynak Alanlari). These projects will be established in Konya, Karaman, Malatya Van, Antalya, and Kütahya.
The selected bidders will have the opportunity to sell the electricity they generate in the free market for 60 months after inking the contract. After this period, the electricity produced will be supplied to the transmission system at a rate of $0.0325 per kWh for 20 years. Furthermore, these projects aim to reduce the import of 300 million cubic meters of natural gas, which is estimated to be worth $3 billion over the 20-year purchase period.
A total of 146 applications were submitted by 67 local and foreign companies. The auction was open to legal entities registered as joint stock or limited liability companies under the Turkish Commercial Code and foreign companies with capital company status.
