OMV Petrom has acquired a 50 per cent stake in Electrocentrale Borzești from RNV Infrastructure. This entity holds renewable energy projects with a combined capacity of around 1,000 MW, consisting of 950 MW in wind power and 50 MW in solar power. The wind farms will be developed, constructed, and operated in partnership with RNV Infrastructure, while the solar project is currently undergoing production tests.

Additionally, in a separate transaction with the Renovatio Group, OMV Petrom acquired renewable energy assets with a total capacity of around 18 MW, comprising 16 MW of wind power and 2 MW of hydroelectric capacity. These assets are already under OMV Petrom’s management. Both deals received approval from the Competition Council and the Commission for Foreign Direct Investments. The wind farms, located in northeastern Romania, are expected to start production between 2025 and 2027, while the photovoltaic farm is still in its testing phase. OMV Petrom’s share of annual production from these projects is projected to be around 1.4 TWh, with operational assets anticipated to generate approximately 45 GWh annually.

Earlier this year, OMV Petrom strengthened its collaboration with Renovatio by acquiring a 50 per cent stake in three photovoltaic projects with a combined capacity of 130 MW. The two companies will work together to develop, build, and manage these solar energy projects.
