NHPC and Ocean Sun have signed MoU to explore the potential of floating solar energy technologies in India. The partnership will enable Ocean Sun to assist India in the construction of floating solar power plants.

NHPC revealed plans to explore key collaborative areas to showcase Ocean Sun’s floating solar technology. The company aims to set up solar installations mounted on a hydro-elastic membrane at locations that NHPC will determine. Ocean Sun revealed that this collaboration is set to result in the development of a 2 MW floating solar project on one of NHPC’s existing hydropower reservoirs.

In February 2024, results were announced for NHPC’s auction to develop 1,500 MW of firm and dispatchable renewable power from inter-state transmission system connected projects, together with energy storage systems. The projects will be set up anywhere in India. BN Hybrid Power (BrightNight) was allocated 120 MW by quoting a tariff of Rs 4.55 per kWh whereas Hero Solar Energy (Hero Future Energies) and Solarcraft Power India (Blupine Energy) won 100 MW and 50 MW respectively by quoting Rs 4.63 per kWh. Other companies have won the following capacities: Juniper Green Energy – 200 MW, ReNew Solar Power (ReNew) – 250 MW, and ACME Cleantech Solutions – 680 MW, by quoting a tariff of Rs 4.64 per kWh.
