Torrent Power secures transmission project in Maharashtra

Torrent Power has been issued the letter of intent by PFC Consulting for the development of an inter-state transmission system (ISTS) to facilitate the power evacuation from 1,500 MW clean energy projects located in Solapur, Maharashtra. The annual transmission charges stand at Rs 500 million. The project will be developed on the basis of build-own-operate-transfer model, with an operational tenure lasting for 35 years. The date for the commencement of commercial operations will be 24 months after the acquisition of the special purpose vehicle. The outlined proposal includes erecting a transmission line that covers around 44 kilometers, linking the current Solapur substation of Powergrid Corporation of India to the forthcoming Solapur substation.

Recently, in February 2024, the Indian Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for Torrent Power Limited’s four clean energy projects in Uttar Pradesh. With a total investment of approximately Rs 250 billion, the projects comprise a 150 MW solar power plant in the Lalitpur district of the Bundelkhkand region of Uttar Pradesh, two pumped storage hydro projects with a combined capacity of 4.15 GW in the Sonbhadra district, and a pilot green hydrogen manufacturing facility in Gorakhpur.In January 2024, TPL planned a comprehensive investment of Rs 473.5 billion encompassing renewable energy, green hydrogen, and power distribution.
