At the heart of this initiative lies Project Mumbai’s Plastic Recyclothon and E-waste Recyclothon, a pioneering movement in community-led recycling. With a clear vision to create a cleaner, greener Mumbai, the project is aligned with India’s national waste management policies and supports global frameworks like the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Agreement.

What makes this initiative truly special is that it goes beyond the boundaries of the hotel—it’s a collective movement that brings together guests, staff, and the larger community in a shared commitment to sustainability. This holistic and inclusive green journey educates, empowers, and engages everyone involved. The hotel will host e-waste collection drives, complemented by awareness sessions led by Project Mumbai to inform and inspire responsible waste practices.

“Luxury and sustainability are no longer parallel paths—they must converge to create responsible hospitality,” said Manish Dayya, General Manager, Sofitel Mumbai BKC. “We are thrilled to partner with Project Mumbai to bring our vision of a zero-waste future to life. By engaging our guests, employees, and the wider community, we aim to lead by example and demonstrate that small actions can lead to meaningful change.”

Saloni Kumawat, Head, Urban Environment, Project Mumbai shared “As a citizen led model of collaborative philanthropy, we at Project Mumbai are working to create a sense of ownership among citizens, towards the urban environment they live, work and play.  Through this sustainable association with Sofitel, it is a unique blend of an institution with deep roots within the city at the same time, spreading the word of no waste to landfill through every visiting guest to this prestigious institution. May this tribe of environment champions only grow”With a mission to make Mumbai the Kindness Capital of India, Project Mumbai continues to foster volunteerism and public-private partnerships that drive positive environmental and social impact.

Together, Sofitel Mumbai BKC and Project Mumbai are charting a new course for sustainability in hospitality—one that is inclusive, measurable, and lasting.
