Westbridge Renewable Energy Corporation has received regulatory approval from the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) for its Red Willow solar and battery energy storage project in Stettler county, Alberta, Canada. The approval has been granted to its wholly owned subsidiary, Red Willow Solar Inc., and includes authorisation for both the power plant and the associated battery energy storage system (BESS), along with a permit and licence for the Birch 1075S substation.
The Red Willow project includes a solar power plant with a capacity of up to 225 MWac, a BESS with a capacity of up to 200 MWh. Moreover, the approval, subject to regulatory conditions set by the AUC, allows the project to move forward under the applicable provisions of the Hydro and Electric Energy Act and the Alberta Utilities Commission Act. Applications related to interconnection approvals are expected to be submitted to AUC before the end of 2026.
In December 2025, AUC granted final approval for the Dolcy solar-plus-energy storage project, completing all discretionary permitting required to begin construction. The approval covers the transmission line permit, connection approval, and facility clearances, including acceptance of the system needs assessment by the Alberta Electric System Operator. The project comprises a 300 MWac solar project and a 100 MW/200 MWh BESS project.
