NITI Aayog has launched the India Electric Mobility Index (IEMI) to track the progress of states and union territories (UTs) in advancing electric mobility goals.
The IEMI assesses all states and UTs out of 100 across 16 indicators grouped under three core themes namely, transport electrification progress, charging infrastructure readiness, and electronic vehicle (EV) research and innovation status. The tool aims to support data-driven policymaking, encourage inter-state learning, and foster healthy competition. It highlights the role of coordinated state-level action in supporting India’s net-zero target by 2070 and accelerating decarbonisation of the transport sector.
