The Ministry of Power (MoP) has released new guidelines for the installation and operation of battery swapping and charging stations.

These guidelines aim to promote battery swapping as an alternative method for powering electric vehicles (EVs) and encourage the adoption of battery as a service models. The guidelines apply to all swappable battery providers and operators of battery swapping and charging stations. They also define key terms such as battery swapping station and battery charging station and allow the use of existing electricity connections for such facilities. Furthermore, the guidelines promote the use of liquid-cooled swappable batteries for larger vehicles like buses and trucks to enhance the ecosystem for EV battery swapping in India.
