New Delhi, India: In a significant boost to green growth and sustainable development, the Republic of India and the Republic of Korea have reinforced their commitment to advancing climate-friendly and innovative solutions. As founding countries of the International Solar Alliance (ISA) and the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), respectively, both nations announced during the recent Korean State Visit to India their intention to join the international organizations founded and hosted by the other partner country. This milestone marks a pivotal step toward accelerating renewable energy deployment and unlocking sustainable financing opportunities across Asia and beyond.

Building on this momentum, Dr. Malle Fofana, Deputy-Executive Director of GGGI, during his mission to India on May 11, 2026, met with Mr. Ashish Khanna, Director General of ISA, in New Delhi, along with senior officials from both organizations.

ISA and GGGI recognize the importance of strengthened collaboration in addressing persistent financing and implementation gaps that hinder the scale-up of solar and other renewable energy solutions, particularly in emerging and developing economies. By leveraging ISA’s expertise in easing solar deployment, through tailored, country-led implementation anchored in well-defined and differentiated policy frameworks; blended financing and enabling strong local capacity – skills, training, and solutions. And, GGGI’s strengths in policy advisory, scaling up of technology, and mobilizing finance, the collaboration aims to significantly accelerate the roll out of solar energy and lower greenhouse gas emissions. Since its inception, GGGI has mobilized more than USD 18 billion in green investment commitments, helped provide access to clean energy for 8.3 million people, and supported programs projected to reduce more than 540 million tCO₂e in greenhouse gas emissions across over 50 countries. Complementing this, ISA has worked with its 120+ Member Countries to scale solar through flagship initiatives on integrating platforms on catalytic finance, regional transmission inter-connections, integrated capacity building, and developing ecosystem for new technologies and innovation—translating national ambition into bankable projects and scalable solutions. “The growing global momentum for solar energy which has doubled just in the last two years, reflects the strategic benefits of Republic of Korea’s association with the International Solar Alliance. As an alliance led by the Global South, ISA looks forward to deepening its collaboration with GGGI to accelerate scalable, inclusive solar solutions where they are needed most.” noted Mr. Ashish Khanna, Director General of the International Alliance.

“India stands at the forefront of scalable climate action, representing one of the most dynamic investment landscapes for clean energy with the capacity to drive large-scale deployment of solutions. In collaboration with GGGI and the International Solar Alliance, this creates a strong pathway to unlock capital, bridge the gap between ambition and implementation, and accelerate sustainable infrastructure across emerging economies” said Dr. Malle Fofana.

Building on their longstanding collaboration, including the establishment of a joint solar trust fund, ISA and GGGI — two global powerhouses for climate and sustainable development — will deepen cooperation and, with a boost from their host countries, the Republic of India and the Republic of Korea, accelerate clean energy investment and support countries in advancing a more resilient and sustainable energy future.
