INDIA – Honeywell announced it has been selected by Technip Energies to provide integrated automation and safety technologies to the Net Zero Teesside Power (NZT Power) and Northern Endurance Partnership (NEP) projects, which represent two of the UK’s most significant carbon capture and storage (CCS) developments.

Honeywell’s Integrated Control and Safety Systems (ICSS) will deliver a unified automation architecture that combines process control and safety functions for each of the Net Zero Teesside Power (NZT Power) and Northern Endurance Partnership (NEP) projects. The solution will help support safe, reliable and efficient operations across both projects’ sites.

The NZT Power project is poised to be the world’s first gas-fired power station equipped with carbon capture technology. Once operational, the Teesside-based facility will play a critical role in reducing industrial carbon emissions and accelerating the UK’s transition to net zero. The plant will be capable of generating more than 740 megawatts of flexible, dispatchable low-carbon power, equivalent to the annual electricity requirements of more than one million UK homes. Up to two million tonnes of CO2 a year will be captured from NZT Power and then transported and stored by the NEP infrastructure – the UK’s first CO2 transportation and storage project.

Similarly, the NEP project is designed to transport CO₂ from multiple carbon capture projects across the Teesside and the Humber regions in the UK, collectively forming the East Coast Cluster, to offshore storage under the North Sea. Honeywell’s technology will be integrated with the project’s new CO₂ transportation and storage network that connects industrial emitters throughout the region through a subsurface saline aquifer structure in the North Sea and an onshore pipeline network.

“The integration of Honeywell technology within these pioneering projects will play a major role in their ability to redefine the future of clean energy in the UK,” said Menzo Bijmolen, vice president and general manager – EMEA, Industrial Automation Projects & Automation Solutions, Honeywell. “To deploy innovative carbon capture at scale, it is crucial to have innovative automation technologies in place that deliver both operational excellence and safety.”

Technip Energies leads a consortium with GE Vernova alongside construction partner Balfour Beatty to deliver the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract for both the NZT Power and NEP projects. Both projects are a cornerstone of the UK’s national decarbonization strategy and are expected to serve as a global benchmark for future carbon capture and storage (CCS) infrastructure. By capturing and securely storing millions of tonnes of CO₂ annually, the projects aim to significantly reduce the carbon footprint of heavy industry and power generation, while attracting continued investment in clean energy innovation.

Honeywell’s involvement in both projects supports the company’s commitment to enabling the global energy transformation through advanced digital and automation technologies. With deep domain expertise across multiple sectors and approximately 4,000 people across more than 20 sites in the UK, Honeywell has the proven, readily available technology to support the UK Government’s Clean Power 2030 ambition with its role in the NZT Power and NEP projects.
