The European Investment Bank (EIB) has announced that it will lend €390 million to DEPA Commercial SA for the construction and operation of solar farms in Greece. This funding is expected to cover 75 per cent of the total cost of the new solar sites, which is estimated to be up to €521 million.

Furthermore, DEPA Commercial will develop photovoltaic (PV) farms in western Macedonia, Thessaly, and central Greece. Upon completion, the project is expected to add 800 MW of renewable energy which will be enough to power approximately 278,000 households for a year.

In June 2024, the European Investment Bank announced it will advise Natsionalna Elektricheska Kompania EAD on constructing two 800 MW pumped-storage hydropower plants in Bulgaria. The projects are expected to cost around €900 million each, with plans to enhance storage capacity and electricity supply. The plans are expected to be operational by 2032.
