New Delhi: On the occasion of World Youth Skills Day, Automotive Skills Development Council (ASDC) reaffirmed its commitment to building a future-ready automotive workforce under this year’s global theme, ‘Skills for a Shared Future.’ The Council emphasized that collaboration between industry, government, academia, and training institutions is essential to equip young people with the skills required to drive innovation, sustainable mobility, and inclusive economic growth.

India’s automotive industry is undergoing one of its biggest transformations, with rapid advancements in electric mobility, automation, connected vehicles, artificial intelligence, and advanced manufacturing. As new technologies reshape production systems and service networks, the demand for skilled professionals is growing across the automotive value chain. Developing industry-ready talent is therefore critical not only for enhancing employability but also for strengthening productivity, quality, safety, and India’s global competitiveness in the mobility sector. As the apex skill development body for the automotive industry, during FY 2025-26, ASDC impacted more than 5.08 lakh learners through training, certification, apprenticeships, e-learning, and higher education initiatives. The Council assessed and certified over 1.53 lakh candidates, engaged 2.88 lakh apprentices, and expanded its footprint by adding 322 new training centres across the country.

The Council has established advanced EV laboratories and Centres of Excellence and continues to strengthen diploma programmes in manufacturing and automobile service technologies to prepare youth for emerging careers.

Speaking on the occasion, Vinkesh Gulati, Chairperson, ASDC, said, “The theme ‘Skills for a Shared Future’ reflects the collective responsibility of industry, government, academia, and training institutions to prepare young people for tomorrow’s economy. Recognising that a shared future must also be an inclusive future, ASDC has expanded CSR-led skill development initiatives with leading industry partners. We are committed to creating an inclusive skilling ecosystem that empowers every learner with industry-relevant capabilities while helping the automotive industry access the talent it needs to grow. Together, we are building a workforce that will drive India’s journey towards becoming a global leader in mobility and manufacturing.”

On World Youth Skills Day, ASDC reiterated that investing in skills is an investment in India’s future. By fostering partnerships, promoting lifelong learning, and equipping youth with future-ready competencies, the Council continues to contribute towards a resilient, innovative, and globally competitive automotive ecosystem that delivers shared growth and shared prosperity.
