New Delhi  – The Automotive Skills Development Council (ASDC), in collaboration with VE Commercial Vehicles Ltd. (VECV), successfully conducted an immersive, hands-on automotive training program at three prestigious institutions—Pillai College of Engineering (Mumbai) and Sathyabama University (Chennai),. This industry-academia initiative, held on February 17, 2025, provided students with an unparalleled opportunity to gain practical knowledge and experience in cutting-edge automotive technology, helping companies find more industry-suitable students and promoting the automotive sector among aspiring professionals. With the Eicher Training Van serving as the central hub of learning, the program was designed to bridge the gap between theoretical understanding and real-world application. The training combined structured classroom sessions with hands-on practical exposure, allowing students to interact with advanced tools and equipment housed within the van. This initiative aligns with ASDC’s mission to enhance skill development in India’s rapidly evolving automotive sector.

Speaking on the success of the initiative, Mr. F R Singhvi, President of ASDC, stated, “At ASDC, we are committed to equipping the future workforce with the skills required for India’s growing automotive industry. The Eicher Training Van initiative is a testament to our dedication to skill-building, providing students with industry-relevant expertise that enhances employability. Collaborations like these are crucial in fostering a workforce capable of meeting the evolving demands of the automotive sector.” The program witnessed enthusiastic participation, with approximately 166 students from Pillai College of Engineering and 39 students from Sathyabama University. The response from students and faculty alike underscored the importance of industry-led training in shaping career pathways and fostering technical proficiency.

Commenting on the impact of the training, Mr. Kaushik Dey, Head of Aftermarket Competence Development, VE Commercial Vehicles Ltd., noted, “As a leading player in the commercial vehicle segment, VECV recognizes the importance of nurturing young talent. Through the Eicher Training Van, we aim to provide students with a real-world understanding of automotive systems, diagnostics, and maintenance. This hands-on approach not only strengthens their technical knowledge but also prepares them for careers in the dynamic automotive industry.” India’s automotive sector is poised for significant expansion, with the industry projected to contribute 12% to the country’s GDP by 2030. With increasing demand for skilled professionals, initiatives like the Eicher Training Van play a vital role in equipping students with practical skills that align with industry expectations. According to a report by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, India requires over 25 million skilled workers in the automobile sector by 2025 to meet its growth trajectory. By strategically selecting institutions aligned with ASDC’s training objectives, this initiative ensures maximum impact and outreach. The success of the program highlights the significance of hands-on training in enhancing student employability and fostering industry-ready professionals. ASDC and VECV remain committed to further expanding such initiatives, reinforcing their dedication to shaping India’s automotive workforce for the future.
