INOX Air Products (INOXAP) has commissioned its first green hydrogen plant at Asahi India Glass Limited’s (AIS) float glass facility in Soniyana, Chittorgarh, Rajasthan. INOXAP is responsible for the plant’s design, engineering, installation, and operational management, ensuring continuous supply to AIS. This plant was developed under a 20-year offtake agreement, and marks the first use of green hydrogen in India’s float glass manufacturing sector.
The plant has a total production capacity of 190 tonnes per annum, and will supply 95 tonnes annually in its first phase. As a part of the agreement, AIS has invested in a dedicated solar power plant to generate renewable energy for electrolysis-based hydrogen production, which will be used in its glass manufacturing process.
The project aims to support decarbonisation in industrial glass production, with an expected annual carbon emission reduction of 1,250 tonnes and a total reduction of 25,000 tonnes over the agreement period. Furthermore, AIS has set a target of meeting 94 per cent of its energy needs at this facility through sustainable sources, including electricity generation from flue gases before release.
