WestWind Energy has inked a lease agreement with the New South Wales government for the construction of Lake Victoria wind farm. The project will be built over a period of 2-3 years from 2029-2032. The project will have an installed capacity of approximately 1 GW and an annual energy production of approximately 3400 GWh. It also has an estimated capital expenditure of $3.8 billion.
The project will also incorporate up to three battery energy storage systems with a total storage capacity of 1500 MWh. Furthermore, Crown Lands has negotiated an agreement for a special purpose lease that will grant WestWind Energy an initial 25-year lease. The agreement also includes two 7-year extension options to extend the lease for an additional 14 years.
The Australian wind energy sector has been rapidly expanding. Earlier in April 2024, Alinta Energy and JERA Nex, through its wholly owned subsidiary Parkwind, agreed to jointly develop the 1 GW+ Spinifex Offshore Wind Farm in the Southern Ocean Region Declared Area in South West Victoria.
