EWEC (Emirates Water and Electricity Company) has received three proposals for the development of its new 1,500 MW Khazna Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Independent Power Project in Abu Dhabi. The bidders include ENGIE, a consortium led by EDF Renewables and Korea Western Power (KOWEPO), and a joint consortium of Jinko Power and JERA.

Furthermore, the project is expected to reduce Abu Dhabi’s carbon emissions by more than 2.4 million tonnes per year, contributing 5 per cent toward EWEC’s planned 36 per cent reduction in power emissions intensity by 2030 compared to current levels. The Khazna Solar PV project aligns with EWEC’s objectives to increase Abu Dhabi’s solar capacity to approximately 13 GW by 2030 and to fulfil 60 per cent of Abu Dhabi’s electricity demand with renewable and clean energy by 2035.
