China’s Three Gorges Renewables Group Announces 16 GW Investment in Kubuqi Base Project

China’s Three Gorges Renewables Group has announced that its onshore subsidiary, Inner Mongolia Three Gorges Mengneng Energy Company Limited (Energy Co), will invest CNY79.8 billion in a 16.2 GW integrated energy project located in Ordos in Kubuqi Desert, Inner Mongolia.

The ambitious Kubuqi Base Project will comprise 8 GW of solar photovoltaic (PV) installations, 4 GW of wind power, 4 GW of coal-fired power, 200 MW of solar thermal capacity, and 5 GWh of energy storage. The shareholders of Energy Co are Three Gorges Land New Energy Investment Company Limited (56 per cent) and Inner Mongolia Energy China Three Gorges Corporation Limited (44 per cent). Scheduled to begin construction in September 2024, the project is set for completion by June 2027.
