Gensol Engineering Limited has been awarded an additional 250 MW/500 MWh through the greenshoe option, expanding their standalone battery energy storage systems (BESS) project to a total of 500 MW/ 1,000 MWh. The project awarded by Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited, comprising both first and second tranche, is expected to generate total revenue of Rs 26.85 billion over the 12-year battery energy storage purchase agreement duration.

The project will provide power on an on-demand basis to state discoms of Gujarat during peak and off-peak hours, thereby extending the availability of renewable energy beyond solar hours. It will fulfill energy storage purchase obligations and improve grid resilience. Once operational at two Gujarat Energy Transmission Corporation substations, the project will provide 500 MW/1,000 MWh of energy through two charge/discharge cycles daily.
