RWE has concluded the final investment decision for the Nordseecluster, which includes a cluster of four offshore wind projects with a total capacity of 1.6 GW. These wind farms will be situated about 50 km north of Juist Island in the North Sea. The Nordseecluster will be executed in two phases – Nordseecluster A and B. Nordseecluster A has a total capacity of 660 MW. Manufacturing of some key components has already started.

Furthermore, construction at sea is planned to start in 2025. By the beginning of 2027, all 44 wind turbines shall be connected to the grid. Nordseecluster B will add a further 900 MW of capacity. The 60 turbines are scheduled to start commercial operation from the beginning of 2029. Moreover, RWE does not have to make any lease payments to the German Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur) for the Nordseecluster sites. The green electricity produced from the Nordseecluster will aid RWE’s industrial clients, including AI data centre operators, in their decarbonisation efforts through tailored energy solutions.

Additionally, key suppliers for the project have also been finalised. Atlantique Offshore Energy will supply two offshore transformer substations, while Hellenic Cables is responsible for cable production. Dajin Offshore will manufacture the wind turbine foundations, with Van Oord handling their sea installation. Vestas has been selected to provide the V236-15.0 MW wind turbines, each with a 15 MW capacity. Havfram Wind will oversee the transport and installation of the turbines using the vessels ‘Norse Wind’ and ‘Norse Energi.’
