RWE and Haltermann Carless, a supplier of hydrocarbon-based products and solvents, have inked a MoU to build a green hydrogen plant in Harwich, in Essex, in the south-east of the UK. The plant would be developed on land that forms part of the Haltermann Carless industrial site in Harwich.

Furthermore, Haltermann Carless Harwich is a key production site which manufactures a spectrum of products for Agrochemicals and Fuel Additives businesses. The company is working on sustainable products contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, which includes the future production of sustainable aviation fuels from the Harwich site.

After completion, the clean hydrogen produced from the Harwich electrolyser could enable the company to reduce its carbon emissions and sustainably produce a wider range of products. Both the companies have finished assessing the feasibility of a green electrolyzer at the location, and efforts are currently ongoing to evaluate the necessary grid and water connections for advancing the project. The project is expected to create opportunities for green investment, jobs and local economic benefits.
