Equinix has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with TagEnergy for 151 MW of clean energy from the 1.33 GW Golden Plains wind farm in Australia. The PPA will help Equinix achieve its goal of running its business entirely on renewable energy. The wind farm’s 17 International Business Exchange (IBX) data centres in Australia will run entirely on renewable energy once it starts generating electricity in 2029.

With a $2.16 billion valuation, GPWF will be Australia’s most extensive wind farm. The project, which is close to Geelong, Victoria, will include 215 turbines, each having a power of 6.2 MW. With 122 turbines in its initial stage, it is expected to produce 756 MW, or more than 2,000 GWh, yearly. It will generate 4,000 GWh of green energy yearly when it is fully operational. Equinix plans to consume 20 per cent of the energy generated by GPWF’s east part.

In May 2023, Sonnedix signed a ten-year PPA with Equinix to supply power from three 150 MW solar projects in Spain. Reportedly, the PPA is Sonnedix’s largest deal ever in Europe. The solar plants are located in Cuenca, Castilla-La Mancha.
