NTPC launch hydrogen fuel bus service on Delhi to Jaipur route. Giving a boost to green and clean mobility, the plan was announced by Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways along with R. K. Singh, the Union Minister of State (IC) for Power and New & Renewable Energy, during the “Go Electric” campaign to spread awareness on the benefits of e-mobility and EV Charging Infrastructure as well as in India.

Currently, a study for the bus service is underway to test the viability of fuel cell buses for the intercity commute, and no timeline for the bus to start plying the roads has been announced yet. This bus service will be the first of its kind in India to be used for intercity commute.

During the launch of the ‘Go Electric’ campaign, power minister RK Singh said “We are planning to start premium hydrogen fuel bus service from Delhi to Jaipur and gradually we will also try experimenting running electric bus on the same route.”

The government at the centre is also trying to procure 40,000 battery-powered buses in Maharashtra for an intracity commute. This comes at a time when the government is trying to make a gradual shift towards alternative fuels in a bid to reduce its dependence on the import of crude oil as prices of petrol and diesel skyrocket in the country.
