• Eternalyte enables more than 300 km of additional EV range in under four minutes

• Eternalyte preserves battery capacity and performance in extreme cold temperatures, as low as -40°C, making EVs fully competitive in even the coldest climates

• Technology paves the way for next-gen lithium metal EV batteries with 1,600 km driving ranges and vehicle lifetime durability

24M Technologies has developed a breakthrough electrolyte that enables ultra-fast charging and unparalleled performance in extreme cold temperatures. Called Eternalyte, 24M’s revolutionary new electrolyte brings about a step change in ionic conductivity, which is the rate at which ions flow between the anode and cathode. The higher a battery’s ionic conductivity, the faster the charge rate – and with up to three times the ionic conductivity of standard electrolytes, Eternalyte significantly increases rate performance without compromising energy density regardless of the chemistry.

Resulting in a charge rate four times higher than a conventional electrolyte, 24M’s Eternalyte technology can deliver a staggering 300+ km of additional range in under four minutes (charging from SOC 15% to 80%). Crucially, this ultra-fast charging capability does not require a mega-watt charging infrastructure either.

What’s more, thanks to Eternalyte’s high ionic conductivity and broad working temperature window, the technology brings a significant increase in battery performance in extreme cold environments. Where conventional batteries lose about 25% of their capacity at 0°C and almost all capacity at much lower temperatures, 24M’s Eternalyte electrolyte retains essentially all capacity at 0°C and more than 80% capacity at -40°C, eliminating a major issue with today’s EVs in winter and cold climates.

Naoki Ota, President and CEO at 24M Technologies said: “24M’s Eternalyte electrolyte breakthrough solves some of the biggest challenges of lithium-ion batteries today. Rapid charge, superior low-temperature performance and great cycle life with lithium-metal and other high energy density chemistries, Eternalyte provides outstanding performance for applications ranging from EVs to consumer products. It paves the way for next-gen batteries, including lithium metal, with 1,600-kilometer driving range and years of reliable performance.” Initially designed for lithium metal batteries, Eternalyte is an ideal solution as well for silicon and graphite-based batteries used in applications that require high power and low temperature performance with outstanding rapid charge rates and longevity. It can be easily integrated into existing manufacturing processes and when used with 24M’s Impervio™ separator , Eternalyte can deliver a fundamentally safer, long-lived battery.
