The World Bank has approved an operation to support the green hydrogen strategy of Pecém Industrial and Port Complex Company (CIPP) and the Government of Ceará. CIPP is located in Ceará, in Northeastern Brazil, and is an industrial and logistics hub. It is also a leading location for the development of a hydrogen hub in Brazil. The initiative will enable the production of clean hydrogen in the Complex of Pecém.
Furthermore, the World Bank’s financial support is granted through the Investment Project Financing instrument. The total financing is $134 million. It includes $90 million of IBRD loan, $9 million grant from the IBRD Surplus-Funded Livable Planet Fund grant, $33.5 million of Climate Investment Funds (CIF) loan under the Renewable Energy Integration Program (REI), and $1.5 million of CIF REI grant.
Earlier in May 2025, the World Bank approved a $350 million grant to support Malawi’s Mpatamanga Hydropower Storage Project (MHSP). The grant has been approved by the International Development Association (IDA). The project was co-developed by the Government of Malawi and the International Finance Corporation, which is a part of the World Bank Group, as a public-private partnership.
