RWE and TotalEnergies have inked a long-term offtake agreement for the purchase of green hydrogen over 15 years. Under this agreement, TotalEnergies will purchase around 30,000 metric tonnes of green hydrogen per year from RWE for its refinery in Leuna (Saxony-Anhalt).
Furthermore, this 30,000 metric tonnes of green hydrogen will be produced by RWE in their 300 MW electrolysis plant in Lingen (GET H2 Nukleus). This plant will become operational in 2027, and green hydrogen will be supplied from 2030 to 2044. Additionally, RWE Generation will utilise booked capacities at the hydrogen storage facility in Gronau-Epe to ensure a reliable supply of the contractually agreed hydrogen.
Earlier in November 2024, TotalEnergies partnered with Air Liquide to produce renewable hydrogen at its La Mède biorefinery in southeast France as part of its plan to decarbonise hydrogen used in its European refineries by 2030.
