The NTPC Group has achieved 300 billion units (BUs) of electricity generation for the financial year 2024-25 on December 8, 2024. This was achieved in 252 days, making it the fastest in the company’s history, surpassing the previous financial year, when the same mark was achieved on December 18, 2023.
In November 2024, NTPC announced the establishment of a 1-tonne per day seawater-to-green hydrogen plant through NETRA, the Research and Development centre of NTPC, at Simhadri near Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, utilising low-carbon desalination powered by waste heat from thermal power flue gas, resulting in hydrogen-grade water obtained from seawater conversion at a lower cost.
NTPC currently operates with an installed capacity of 76.5 GW, with an additional 29.5 GW, including 9.6 GW from renewable energy sources, under construction. The company has set a target of 60 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2032. In addition to its power generation efforts, NTPC has diversified into emerging business areas such as e-mobility, waste-to-energy projects, and green hydrogen solutions.
