Results for NHPC’s auction to develop 1,500 MW of firm and dispatchable renewable power from inter-state transmission system (ISTS) connected projects, together with energy storage systems have been announced. The tender was issued in October 2023. The projects will be set up anywhere in India. BN Hybrid Power (BrightNight) was allocated 120 MW by quoting a tariff of Rs 4.55 per kWh whereas Hero Solar Energy (Hero Future Energies) and Solarcraft Power India (Blupine Energy) won 100 MW and 50 MW respectively by quoting Rs 4.63 per kWh. Other companies have won the following capacities: Juniper Green Energy – 200 MW, ReNew Solar Power (ReNew) – 250 MW, and ACME Cleantech Solutions – 680 MW, by quoting a tariff of Rs 4.64 per kWh.
Under the tender, prospective bidders were granted the freedom to select any location in India for their projects. They have the option to locate and secure, either through acquisition or lease, the land of their preference for the project, without encountering specific limitations on the geographical placement within the country.
Recently, in February 2024, Indian Prime Minister laid the foundation stone of NHPC’s 300 MW solar project located in Bikaner district of Rajasthan.
In the same month, results were announced for NHPC’s auction to develop 1,500 MW of inter-state transmission system connected wind-solar hybrid power projects anywhere in India. By quoting Rs 3.48 per kWh, Juniper Green Energy has won 150 MW. While Energizant Power (O2 Power) and Avaada Energy have won 300 MW and 510 MW, respectively, by quoting Rs 3.49 per kWh. Of the total tendered capacity, only 960 MW was auctioned.
