The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has issued revised guidelines for the installation and testing of prototype wind turbines to improve safety, certification, and technical compliance.
The norms require manufacturers to obtain type certification from internationally accredited agencies before deploying prototypes. The National Institute of Wind Energy will serve as the nodal agency, with limits set on the number of prototype installations and a cap of 18 months for grid synchronisation. The rules prohibit the use of second-hand components, ban serial production without revised list of models and manufacturers listing, and mandate full ownership retention by the manufacturer.
