Reportedly, Kerala State Electricity Board Limited (KSEB) has signed an agreement with the Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI) to expand solar energy in Kerala. The agreement aims to lower power purchase costs by at least 10 per cent.

Under this agreement, KSEBL will buy 500 MW of solar power from SECI at a rate of Rs 3.49 per unit. The power supply agreement is expected to begin by September 2026 and will last for 25 years. The agreement also includes provisions for supplying power during peak-demand hours after 6 pm.

Earlier this month, SECI was accorded with the Navratna status and also issued a tender inviting bids to develop 1 GW of inter-state transmission system (ISTS)-connected solar power projects for Tranche XVIII. In August 2024, SECI issued a tender to appoint an agency to lease or purchase 800 acres of land in Madhya Pradesh. It is required for a 200 MW solar project.
