Infener has teamed up with the City of Gengenbach to plan a 20 MW green hydrogen hub. The facility aims to generate up to 2,000 tonnes of green hydrogen per year, supplying the Ortenau district with decentralised, climate-neutral, and cost-efficient energy. The green hydrogen will be produced using water electrolysis, powered by renewable energy in grid-supporting H2 hubs.
The project is currently in the conceptual phase and its future depends on the results of this stage, finalisation of purchase agreements, and securing necessary investments. Moreover, the initiative has gained support from local authorities, including the mayor, municipal utilities, regional economic development agencies, and Climate Partners South Baden.
Earlier this year, the company began building additional hubs in Villingen-Schwenningen and Neumünster. Infener plans to establish decentralised hubs across Europe, significantly contributing to the implementation of the hydrogen strategy. The German government’s National Hydrogen Strategy aims to establish a domestic electrolysis capacity of 10 GW by 2030.
