India participated in the Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa (BRICS) energy ministers meeting held in Brazil.

During the meeting, the Union Minister emphasised the importance of strengthening BRICS cooperation to ensure equitable access to energy, energy security, and sustainability.  India has invited all BRICS nations to participate in the 2026 BRICS energy gathering to be hosted in India. The energy ministerial communiqué adopted at the meeting reaffirmed BRICS’ commitment to sustainable development goals 7, energy security, inclusive transitions, and the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities. It called for open and non-discriminatory energy markets, greater use of local currencies in trade, concessional financing, and knowledge sharing through platforms such as the BRICS energy research cooperation platform and the updated BRICS roadmap for energy cooperation.
