The Infrastructure and Development Bank of Zimbabwe (IDBZ) approved the development of a 5 MW Gutu Solar Power Generation Plant. Under the agreement, IDBZ is funding the project, while Gutu Rural District Council (GRDC) is providing leased land, which received a 25-year lease approval in October 2023. GRDC has begun site preparation, including land clearing, road construction, and fencing.

The Ministry of Finance, Economic Development & Investment Promotion, with funds from the French Development Agency (AFD), secured financing for feasibility and ESIA studies. SOWITEC Kenya Limited, alongside MAZEDECK Ventures (Pvt) Limited, was contracted for these studies in July 2022. An EPC contractor will soon be chosen for the project. The completion of the project is expected within 12 months.
