The Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission (GERC) has released the Draft Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission (Net Metering Rooftop Solar PV Grid Interactive Systems) (Fourth Amendment) Regulations, 2024. In an effort to improve the integration of higher solar capacities into the grid while maintaining fair cost distribution, the draft introduces specific requirements for low- and high-tension customers installing rooftop solar systems.

The regulator has waived the requirement for a technical feasibility study for rooftop systems with a maximum capacity of 10 kW. The distribution company will manage any increase in the permitted load for the consumer. Distribution licensees are required under the new amendment to update the capacity of their transformers to connect rooftop solar systems on an annual basis. To guarantee openness and effective grid capacity management, this information must be given to the commission. A significant modification included in the amendment concerns charges related to strengthening the distribution network in order to facilitate rooftop solar installations.
