Greek Independent Power Transmission Operator (IPTO), Anexartitos Diacheiristis Metaforas Ilektrikis Energeias, and its Saudi counterpart, National Grid SA, have established a joint venture (JV) named Saudi Greek Interconnection, to conduct a feasibility study for the proposed electricity interconnection between the two nations.

The joint venture, equally owned by IPTO and National Grid SA, has appointed the CEO of National Grid SA as the chairman of the board, while the CEO and chairman of IPTO will serve as the CEO of the new JV.

Technical teams, comprising executives from both IPTO and National Grid SA, are actively involved in advancing the electrical interconnection project, focusing on defining design parameters and evaluating its feasibility and commercial potential. This collaboration builds on an agreement inked between the two entities in October 2023. The project aims to strengthen energy corridors between the Middle East and Europe, contributing significantly to the region’s energy transition.
